Staff Pick: "The Spiritual Life: And How to Be Attuned to It," St. Theophan the Recluse

It's high time for a staff pick here at Holy Cross Bookstore! Today's Staff Pick, The Spiritual Life: And How to Be Attuned to It, is brought to you by Jeremy, a first-year seminarian and the newest member of our team. Let's see why he selected St. Theophan's classic work.

How did you first hear about this book?
I was given a copy of this book at my chrismation by a fellow chrismatee.

Why does this book matter to you?
This book matters to me because it has very useful information on basically all aspects of the spiritual life (prayer, fasting, warfare with the passions, etc.) presented in a condensed, easy-to-follow, and highly pastoral manner.

What about this book did you find surprising?
I was surprised by the detailed and authoritative discussion of the nature and parts of the soul.

Who should read this book?
Anyone who is interested in strengthening their own spiritual life (which should be everyone!) should read this book.

Thanks, Jeremy!
